Watch out for those boobies!

I heard a great story tonight and had to share immediately, before I procrastinated it to never. So my parents just got back from a cruise they went on with some friends. One of those friends, we shall call her Anne, is one hilarious lady. She used to be a nun and a ballet teacher, then a candy maker with her now deceased husband. And she wears her hair in a braided bun on the top of her head, like a bird's nest. Needless to say, there are always good stories and laughs when she's around.

Anyway, so one morning on the boat she was getting ready for the day and she couldn't find her bra. She searched high and low in the small boat cabin, but could not find it anywhere. Finally she decided to wear her back-up bra. And she was uncomfortable all day. She kept complaining about how tight it was and was concerned that maybe she had gained too much weight and that was why it wasn't fitting as well. Terrible day. Eventually the end of the day came and Anne went to change into her pajamas, only to find that she'd been wearing BOTH bras all day. Yes ladies, that is right. She was wearing 2 bras. Not only was she already wearing it when she was searching for it, she didn't seem to notice when she put the second bra on - that she already had a bra on! Now I realize we all wear an extra layer there that other worldly people do not, but seriously! I laughed my little patooty off and knew the story was WOFYB worthy. So enjoy.

Nurse Phyllis is alive!!!

Hey ladies, I know I'm probably the most horrible person for not writing on this blog, I don't really have a good excuse, I hope you can forgive me! Here is a quick rundown on my life:

I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma!!! At the end of last year I graduated nursing school and I decided to move out of state for a job. I looked all over and came across a hospital in Tulsa that hired new graduates. I continued my search, mostly looking east coast when the Big Man upstairs decided that Tulsa was where I should go. So I finally quit Allen's Camera (after almost 10 years), and at the end of March packed up my car and headed to the midwest. I stayed with a friends parents (who I had never met until I showed up on their front doorstep) and started applying for jobs. Within a month I had one!
I'm working at St. Francis Hospital on a specialized cardiac unit. It's an ICU step-down unit which means I take care of patients who have had some sort of cardiac or thoracic surgery (such as open heart surgery or a thoracotomy) and they stay with us until they go home. It's a lot of hard work but it is very rewarding. I've met a lot of great people and I am learning a lot too. I think it's going to be great!
My little sister OrLynne got married in May so that leaves me and Nyle (my youngest bro) as the only single kids in the Sampson clan. My sister-in-law Amber who is married to Micah (the marine) gave birth to two adorable twin girls two weeks ago. They are the cutest little babies ever (of course I'm not biased or anything!)
Life is definitely different in Tulsa than it is in Happy Valley. I really like it though except for the 30+ days of temperatures over 100 degrees. I started going to the singles branch here as soon as I arrived and within two months I was called to be the Relief Society President. Yes you read that right, I am the new R.S. Pres for the Tulsa University Singles Branch. Talk about strange and unexpected. At first I felt completely unqualified and overwhelmed but the Lord has really guided and directed me to help the sisters here in Tulsa.
I made a quick trip back to Utah last week (MegNog I'm sorry I didn't call you but I was only there for a few days and the family completely monopolized my time). I got to see my cute twin nieces and I also decided to take out my endowments. I went through the Mount Timpanogos Temple and it was the best choice I have ever made. When I think back to when we lived together and where I was at spiritually, I almost don't recognize myself. I've come a long way and it's definitely for the better.
So, that's my life right now! That ended up not being such a quick update :) I love you all and I'd love to hear where your lives have taken you!
Love Always

Quick Update

Hello Dearest WOFYBers.

Just 2 quick updates.
1. We survived the tornadoes. The storms and tornadoes kind of danced around us, hitting mere miles away, but we were so very blessed and have no damage or anything.

2. I have disappeared from facebook. Brian and both decided to leave the world of facebook. Which just means, we need to better utilize this blog!

Face, where are you!? Man Thighs, are you engaged? Phyllis, you moved to Tulsa and have not told WOFYB! MegNog, you are wonderful and have even posted pictures! And as a result, you are awarded with this fantastic link that Brian found and instantly thought needed to be forwarded to you. Here it is, enjoy.

One More Reason Why I Love Jared

While Logan and I were gone in California, visiting my sister Becca, when Jared felt like watching something and was perusing through our collection, what do you think he pulled out to watch?

                         Grey's Anatomy.

He watched 3 episodes by the time we got home and is still going strong.

You Really Do Need to Watch Out For Your Boobs

. . . especially when getting Logan out of the bath.
Oh and here's an AWKWARD story. Last week there was a get together and the girls around the table were talking about corsets. This led to one of the girls telling a story from when her and her husband were engaged. He asked her, "Does it bother you that your boobs are small?" She said she had no idea her boobs were small. After replying that it didn't bother her, she asked her husband, "Wait, does it bother you?" His response, "No, I just can't wait to touch them."
Now you know I'm all for stories, especially women stories, but that was a bit over the top. So of course, I thought I'd share.

Soarin in the South

So it has officially been too long since my last post. I can't tell you how many posts I've drafted in my head while driving, running, or trying to fall asleep at night. Yet, somehow they never seem to make it to the keyboard. For which I do apologize. I love you all and miss you all, and make a goal to be a more contributing member of Wofyb Academy.

Our lives are still pretty much the same as they were 6 months ago. We're still living in my parent's basement, which while painful to my pride, has really turned out to be not too bad. I'm still working at the law firm, and still scouring the incredibly sucky job market for a therapy job. Brian is finishing up his degree in architecture. 7 More weeks until GRADUATION, which can't come soon enough. Architecture school sucks, especially for wives. But only 7 more weeks!

We have started looking for a home, which is really exciting and scary. The housing market in Birmingham is super expensive, and neither one of us will be making the big bucks anytime soon, so we're kind of leaning towards buying a loft downtown close to wherever Brian's job will be. So that's where we're at and where we're headed.

As for the past 6 or so months, here's the highlight reel:

-It snowed THREE times here, which is THREE times more than normal.
-We missed a day of work and got to sled in the streets covered in ice.
-The Auburn Tigers won the National Championship, WAR EAGLE! We love our Tigers.
-I have the greatest husband in the world and I love him more than ever.
-My little bro Dear Jane'd the gf none of us like.
-We're still serving in the nursery, and Brian is so popular the kids fight to sit and play with him. In fact, my 5 year-old niece told me on Sunday that Brian is so fun it makes her not want to play with me. Exact quote. I told her I felt the same way about her. Ha! Take that little kid!
-We've been able to help lots of friends with home improvement projects, which we love! So far we've done lots of painting, wallpaper removal, installed some big kitchen appliances, and my favorite - installed a hardwood floor! It was really fun and rewarding, and I'm constantly impressed by how smart and handy Brian is with these kinds of projects.
-My parents bought a treadmill for Christmas, which I have ended up using 10x more than anyone else in the house. I LOVE it and have enjoyed the ease of an exercise routine so close to home.
-We took a 4 day trip to Chicago for our 1 year anniversary. It was freezing cold (right before Christmas) but lots of fun.
-Brian and I have tons of dance parties in our living and bedroom and have added to the list of people-dances (remember the Doug and Justin dance!? I taught him those already). In fact we have a rule that anytime a Black Eyed Peas song comes on the radio, we have to drop everything and have a dance party.
-I'm playing with the idea of growing my hair long again. Since Brian is my hair stylist and barber, it's easy enough to try things out as it is getting to this awkward length, but we'll see how long I last.
-Brian and I were both able to find good deals on some nice mountain bikes and have loved riding together. When the weather is nice we take them down to the nearest state park and ride the trails. I've only fallen (really I tipped over) once!
-We also went to an Auburn hockey game a while ago and I took tons of pictures of the ZAMBONI, much to the wonder of the people around us. They didn't get my excitement. Lame.

That's all I can think of. I wanted to post a picture, but all our recent pictures are on Brian's computer. I'll try to get to that soon. I hope all my fellow WOFYBers are doing well. Man Thighs, what's the status with Mr. First Kiss? We keep checking in hoping for an update! Love you All!

Why You Should Always Have Ice Cream

Tuesday night, we opened our fridge to have some much anticipated cookies 'n cream ice cream. What did we find? Cookies 'n cream liquid! Our freezer and fridge weren't working! We found a home for our orphaned and homeless freezer food and luckily it was freezing outside so we kept our fridge food out in the garage. After 2 days, our appliance was fixed and our food was brought back in the house.
Bottom line: I am grateful for working modern-day conveniences AND you should always have ice cream.

P.S. I have a friend Cindy and I think you guys would like her. We work out every week and do zumba (don't laugh, it's 'cause there was no kickboxing class. you all know I'd rather be punching things). Working out with someone makes you quite close, but I knew we were friends when she told me her sister and her had a leg-hair growing contest. :) She went for three months. She said one day she was running and could feel her leg hairs blowing in the wind. She went home and shaved. Still a valiant effort.
Don't worry though eternal roomies, no amount of leg hair could ever replace the bonding of yelling "Watch out for your boobs" in different accents.
Miss you. Love you.
